We are proud to have been the first concrete company in Australia to have developed an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for our ready-mix concrete in 2019 under our ViroDecs™ range. Our new ViroDecs™ Zero ready-mix concrete range uses our rigorous EPD data to quantify the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of our ready-mix concrete, offering a transparent, ISO compliant and, third party verified basis to our carbon neutral certification. Through our ViroDecs™ Zero Concrete range, we are helping our customers to be leaders in sustainable infrastructure and building industry.
We can confidently offset the remaining GHG emissions produced by our ready-mix concrete on an ‘opt-in’ basis in accordance with the Federal Government’s ‘Climate Active’ Carbon Neutral Standard for Products & Services. Holcim is certified to use the Australian government’s Climate Active trademark, confirming that our carbon neutral ready-mix concrete is based on best practice, international standards and represents genuine carbon offsetting.

Materials use credits
Our ViroDecs™ Zero ready-mix concrete may help achieve reductions in embodied carbon under Mat-1 (v1.2) and Rso-6 (v2.0). Our ViroDecs™ Zero ready-mix concrete is covered by an ISO 14025 and EN 15804 compliant, product-specific EPD. The EPD is a Type III environmental label with a Sustainability Factor of 0.75 under the Mat-2 (v1.2) and Rso-7 (v2.0) credits. Achieve innovation credits
Our ViroDecs™ Zero ready-mix concrete may contribute to the “innovative technology or process” innovation credit for an Australian or world first. In addition, projects considering the Carbon Neutrality innovation challenge, IC-3 (v1.2) and IC-1 (v2.0), can count ViroDecs™ Zero ready-mix concrete toward offsetting its residual carbon footprint. ViroDecs™ Zero ready-mix concrete may assist in the targeting of IC-2 (v2.0) and IC-5 (v1.2) for High Clinker Substitution such as supplementary cementitious materials (SCM). Lastly, improving on credit benchmarks for the resource use credits is another advantage that ViroDecs™ Zero ready-mix concrete may assist with.
