Our technical experts assess project feasibility and design with sustainability in mind. We look to reduce waste, repurpose existing infrastructure and materials, design out contaminants, and optimise systems for cost and operational efficiency – helping clients achieve long-term value that meets their needs.

Environmental and climate outcomes

PDP applies robust environmental assessment tools to evaluate ecological impacts, groundwater dynamics, contaminated land, water and air quality. Our specialists conduct water, mass and energy balances, emissions assessments, climate adaptation advice, and waste management planning – supporting data-driven, sustainable choices aligned with client goals.

Specialist tangata whenua advisory

Our Māori advisory group provides expert guidance across cultural competency, te reo me ōnā tikanga, mātauranga Māori, Te Tiriti obligations, and environmental statutory requirements focused on te taiao. We empower clients with the knowledge and tools to navigate te ao Māori confidently, and engage meaningfully with tangata whenua and cultural protocols.

Cli-1 (v1.2) Climate change risk assessment PDP’s multi-disciplinary teams identify and assess direct and indirect climate and natural hazard risks through flood hazard mapping and modelling including catchment-wide risk analysis, groundwater and sea-level risk assessments, geotechnical hazard identification and risks from other hazards such as temperature, drought and wind.
Cli-2 (ISv1.2) Adaptation options Once climate and natural risks are identified, PDP’s project teams design adaptation options such as flood protection and storage design, erosion control, stormwater upgrades and groundwater control systems. PDP’s planning team provide for measures that are consentable and aligned with long-term asset performance.
Dis-1 (ISv1.2) Receiving water quality Water Resources SQEPs undertake receiving water quality assessments using hydrological monitoring, sediment and nutrient analysis, storm-event sampling and ecological surveys.
Dis-4 (ISv1.2) Air quality PDP’s Air Quality SQEPs assess the impacts of discharging contaminants into the air through dispersion modelling, odour and dust assessments, stack modelling, monitoring programmes and mitigation design across commercial, industrial, agricultural and trade sectors.
Eco-1 (ISv1.2) Ecological value PDP’s terrestrial, freshwater, and coastal ecology teams undertake ecological value assessments, Stream Ecological Valuation (SEV) calculations, fish passage surveys, habitat mapping, wildlife hazard management, biodiversity assessments, and prepare enhancement and restoration plans.
Lan-3 (ISv1.2) Contamination and remediation PDP’s contaminated land specialists undertake preliminary and detailed site investigations, develop remediation action plans, and oversee implementation.
Lan-4 (ISv1.2) Flooding design PDP’s Water Resources and Infrastructure teams use hydrological modelling, hydraulic modelling, climate‑adjusted rainfall analysis, groundwater assessments, and flood mitigation option testing to integrate flood resilience into project design.
Mat-1 (ISv1.2) Materials footprint measurement and reduction PDP’s Water Infrastructure specialists help teams identify lower‑impact construction materials, optimise earthworks and pipe selection, reuse existing assets, and quantify whole‑of‑life material impacts using the Materials Calculator.
Eco-1 (ISv2.1/v2.2) Ecological Protection and Enhancement Ecology SQEPs assess existing ecological value, identify sensitive receptors, and prepare enhancement strategies such as riparian restoration, habitat creation, relocation and pest management plans.
Env-4 (ISv2.1/ISv2.2) Air Quality PDP’s Air Quality SQEPs apply advanced dispersion modelling, assess odour, dust, and GHG emissions, and prepare mitigation plans.
Res-1 (ISv2.1/ISv2.2) Climate and Natural Hazards Risks PDP’s integrated teams contribute hazard assessments across flood, drought, groundwater shifts, land instability, erosion and earthquake affected drainage systems.
Rso-2 (ISv2.1/ISv2.2) Management of Contaminated Material PDP’s Contaminated Land SQEPs prepare Site Contamination Management Plans, remediation plans, soil disturbance management guidance, and monitoring strategies.
Rso-6 (ISv2.1/ISv2.2) Material Life Cycle Impact Measurement and Management Infrastructure SQEPs review designs to reduce material use, promote re use of existing infrastructure, and support selection of lower impact materials. PDP’s Water Infrastructure specialists help teams identify lower‑impact construction materials, optimise earthworks and pipe selection, reuse existing assets, and quantify whole‑of‑life material impacts using the Materials Calculator.
Wat-2 (ISv2.1/ISv2.2) Appropriate Use of Water Sources Groundwater and Water Infrastructure professionals assess alternative water supplies, managed aquifer recharge, surface water–groundwater interactions, and water use optimisation measures.
