IS Foundations is an introductory course designed to build a sustainability mindset and provide a practical understanding of infrastructure sustainability. Learners will explore the four key themes of sustainability, discover how the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) drives positive industry outcomes, and examine real-world examples of sustainability in action.

Whether taken as a standalone learning experience or as a pathway into one of our advanced courses, IS Foundations provides a strong foundation for understanding sustainability in infrastructure and the IS Rating Scheme.

 

Foundations;

At the end of this course, you will be able to

Identify principles of sustainable infrastructure, understand sustainability mindset, and recall the purpose of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) in driving these outcomes.

Identify IS Rating Scheme and its various Rating tools, including IS Planning, IS Essentials, IS Design & As Built Tool, which drive sustainable outcomes for the infrastructure industry; and recall the key components and key phases of the rating process and rating award levels for the Scheme.

Understand the roles and resourcing requirements for the IS Rating Scheme.

Understand the must-do steps for the IS Rating Scheme.

Course structure

Module 1

Learn about the foundations of infrastructure sustainability and the Infrastructure Sustainability Council.

Module 2

This module focuses on the IS Rating Scheme and its process, various phases of rating, award levels, its key components - including themes, categories, and credits. You will also explore case studies to understand costs and benefits of the Scheme.

Module 3

Learn about the roles and resourcing requirements of the IS Rating Scheme.

Module 4

Learn about the must-do steps for undertaking IS Rating including Materiality Assessment, Base Case and Kick-off meeting.
