Description

The Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline (FGP) consists of 117 km of pipeline located in Central Queensland, running through the Gladstone and Rockhampton Regions. The Project is proposed to connect the Lower Fitzroy River, upstream of the Fitzroy Barrage, to Gladstone Area Water Board’s (GAWB) network at Yarwun. It is intended to allow the extraction of water from an intake on the Fitzroy River to a new treatment plant near Rockhampton and then transfer via pipeline to Gladstone and then on to existing and new industrial customers. Figure 1 presents a schematic of the FGP project infrastructure.

Rating Highlights

Category Credits Achievements/Risks
Water Wat-2

FGP committed to achieving 66% replacement of potable water with non potable sources. To support this goal, the project undertook a comprehensive water feasibility analysis, assessing various alternative water sources using evaluation criteria focused on minimising environmental and social impacts. Based on modelling estimates, the project is projected to achieve at least 74% potable water replacement rate compared to the base case design, primarily through the use of non potable water for dust suppression, landscaping, and compaction activities.
Energy and Carbon Ene-1 The project initially committed to achieving a 5% reduction in energy consumption across its entire scope. Through innovative design improvements and the use of renewable electricity, the project exceeded this target achieving a total emissions reduction of 20,488 tCO2e, equivalent to a 7% overall decrease.
Management Systems Man-1 MBJV commits to ‘providing a better life’, this is demonstrated by the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Program which was set up with the support of two Indigenous-linked businesses, the Port Curtis Coral Coast Trust (PCCC) and Durumbal Enterprises.

This reinforces MBJV’s commitment to leave a significant long-term legacy for the region through upskilling and capacity building of Traditional Owner and Indigenous businesses and employees.

Verified Innovations

Name Verification Date Description
I-Supply 20/06/2025 (Claimed within 12 months of another project)

MBJV procured the services of three iSuppliers, including Losee Consulting, WSP Consulting and Vital Super Clear from Vital Chemical's.

Vital Slurry Thick 20/06/2025 (Claimed within 12 months of another project)

Unlike the conventional approach that requires the addition of imported fill material to be blended with the slurry to achieve a workable consistency for transport. The use of Vital Slurry Thick allows for the solidification of slurry material without the need for additional resources.

FODS 20/06/2025 (Claimed within 12 months of another project)

A key sustainability innovation to reduce the amount of sediment tracked out by trucks and light vehicles. In comparison to conventional techniques, the use of FODS aligns with sustainable practices in water conservation, waste reduction and biosecurity.
