About

ACRS is the leading and most technically rigorous, internationally aligned, steel certifier to Australian and New Zealand Standards. The ACRS two-stage certification process is unique within Australia and New Zealand, with its independent, not-for-profit approach – working to JAZ-ANZ accreditation and aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals – giving users assurance of impartial, expert certification.  All ACRS assessments and reviews are undertaken by its own qualified and experienced metallurgists and engineers. They conduct eight areas of review on the conformity of steel products to some nineteen applicable Standards.

ACRS annually certifies over 100 steel producers, issuing over 200 certificates, covering almost 300 production sites, in 24 countries – including to suppliers such as Infrabuild and Bluescope; members of the Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia; and premium overseas suppliers like Nippon Steel, Posco, and Hyundai.

ACRS offers four different steel certification schemes: Product, Traceability, Quality Management and its recently launched Sustainability Scheme.

The Sustainability Scheme assesses producers annually against a benchmark for sustainability, assisting independent verification of environmental and social performance of steel products and production processes. The Scheme aligns to the UN convened SDGs and already certifies over forty producers, and suppliers, from thirteen countries.

ACRS was created in 2000 by consumer associations and peak technical bodies, that remain members to this day, including Engineers Australia, the Australian Institute of Building, and Austroads.
