Overview

Aurecon is committed to creating a better future for people and the planet. We are continuously working to reduce our impact on the environment, decarbonise our business and respond to climate change. Pursuing an IS rating for Belfast to Pegasus is an NZTA requirement. Achieving an IS rating will drive better design and provide independent assurance that the environment and community will benefit from this project.

The Belfast to Pegasus motorway and Woodend bypass is an extension to the Christchurch Northern Motorway. The new section of motorway will be constructed from the Smith Street interchange at the Northern end of Kaiapoi to immediately north of the town of Woodend. The project includes seismic strengthening and widening of the Kaiapoi River bridge, a new bridge over the Cam River, the construction of two new interchanges and new bridges for three local roads over the new motorway. The project will reduce travel times between Woodend, Pegasus and Waikuku and Christchurch and traffic passing through Woodend. This will reduce the severance caused by SH1 in Woodend and improve safety.
