Sustainable Procurement Committee

Procurement decisions play a critical role in shaping sustainability outcomes across infrastructure projects. The Sustainable Procurement Committee brings together industry expertise from the full breadth of the infrastructure value chain to explore how procurement practices can drive environmental and social value, support innovation and deliver more sustainable outcomes across the infrastructure lifecycle. 
 
What the Committee is working on in 2026 

• Embedding sustainable procurement earlier in project planning and delivery 
• Promoting the use of sustainable products and services 
• Supporting carbon reduction and resource efficiency outcomes 
• Aligning procurement approaches with broader sustainability objectives.  

Current Progress 

The Committee has established its work program and agreed two key deliverables focused on sustainable procurement guidance and industry advocacy – an Impact Note (Technical Guidance), aligned with IS Ratings and existing tools, on how to embed sustainable procurement in the early lifecycle stages of a project, and an advocacy piece promoting nationally consistent procurement and carbon assessment settings. Development of both outputs is now underway.
