Dagmat® Biodegradable Wool Weed & Erosion Control Matting – Product Description

Dagmat® is a biodegradable weed and erosion control matting manufactured from 100% natural sheep wool. It is designed to stabilise exposed ground, mitigate erosion, suppress weed growth, and support successful plant establishment across a wide range of environmental and civil applications.

Installed directly onto prepared soil, Dagmat® acts as a physical erosion control barrier, reducing surface water velocity, minimising sediment loss, and protecting soil structure during rainfall and wind events. The matting conforms closely to the ground surface, helping to stabilise slopes and disturbed soils while creating a protective microclimate at ground level.

Dagmat® is commonly used as a plant-through mat, allowing plants to be installed directly through the matting. This provides immediate soil stabilisation while supporting revegetation and long-term ground cover. As the wool fibres biodegrade naturally over time, they integrate into the soil profile without the need for removal.

Typical applications include:
Riparian and stream rehabilitation
Roading batters and transport infrastructure
Mining and quarry remediation
Environmental remediation and revegetation projects
Stormwater swales, basins, and detention ponds
Subdivisions, earthworks, and landscape developments

Dagmat® is available in a range of GSM (grams per square metre) densities, allowing the product to be specified based on required durability and performance life. Higher GSM options provide increased longevity and extended service life for more demanding environments, while lighter weights suit short-term stabilisation and rapid vegetation establishment.

Dagmat® provides a practical, adaptable erosion and weed control solution for projects requiring effective ground stabilisation, plant establishment support, and natural biodegradation over time.

Sustainability Outcomes

Dagmat® – Sustainability & Environmental Benefits

Dagmat® is manufactured from 100% natural sheep wool, a renewable and biodegradable fibre grown using sun, rain, and grass. As a natural protein-based material, wool returns safely to the soil at the end of its service life, leaving no plastic residue or long-term waste.

Unlike synthetic or imported fibre alternatives, Dagmat® biodegrades gradually in situ, eliminating the need for removal or disposal. As the wool fibres break down, they release naturally occurring nutrients, including nitrogen and trace elements, which support soil biology, microbial activity, and plant health. This contributes to improved soil structure and long-term site resilience.

Wool’s natural fibre structure provides inherent moisture management benefits. Dagmat® helps retain soil moisture during dry periods while remaining breathable, supporting seed germination and plant establishment without creating anaerobic conditions. This moisture buffering reduces irrigation demand and improves vegetation survival rates in exposed environments.

Dagmat® offers a low-impact erosion control solution suited to sensitive environments such as riparian zones, wetlands, and stormwater systems. Its flexible, non-abrasive structure conforms to ground contours and waterways, reducing disturbance to soils and ecosystems during installation and over time.

Sourced from a natural fibre stream, Dagmat® supports the productive use of wool that may otherwise be undervalued or discarded, contributing to a more circular and resilient material economy. The product aligns with nature-based solutions and best-practice environmental management principles increasingly specified across civil, infrastructure, and land rehabilitation projects.

Dagmat® provides an environmentally responsible alternative to plastic-based erosion control products, delivering effective ground stabilisation while supporting soil health, vegetation establishment, and natural biodegradation.
