About

Boral is Australia’s largest vertically-integrated construction materials company. That means we not only supply customers with outstanding raw materials like aggregate and sand, we also develop and produce advanced construction materials and solutions like low-carbon concretes and advanced asphalts.

Our network includes prized quarry and cement infrastructure, bitumen, construction materials recycling, asphalt and concrete batching operations. We work year-round to help customers deliver high-profile civil works and major infrastructure projects, as well as key residential, commercial and industrial developments.

Boral Concrete has over 210 premix concrete plants around Australia producing a wide range of concrete mixes in metropolitan and country areas.

Boral Concrete supplies premix concrete to all segments of the construction industry including civil infrastructure, commercial, industrial and residential construction.

For these EPDs, Boral has chosen a range of premix concrete products including its ENVISIA, lower carbon high performance concrete. This has been complimented by more conventional mixes which are also captured in the EPD.

Sustainability Outcomes

We are prioritising lower carbon concrete innovation, development and availability. This supports our own decarbonisation goals – we are aiming to reach net zeroemissions by 2050 – and our customers’ lower carbon and sustainability ambitions. This includes enabling customers to achieve sustainability goals such as the Infrastructure Sustainability Council rating.

Over time, our ambition is to shift our conventional concrete mixes to lower carbon concrete mixes, and position specific products as the standard for our customers.

The selection of products used in these EPDs covers all typical concrete applications, ranging from high-durability requirements in marine and sulphate-resistant exposure conditions to low-risk civil applications. In particular, the products include concrete mixes designed for low shrinkage and high early strength applications, where a reduced carbon footprint is also essential.

Boral EPDs are compliant with EN 15804 and registered with EPD Programme Operators that follow the rules of the ECO Platform.

Boral Concrete can assist to tailor concrete mix designs to achieve sustainability and environmental requirements.

Boral’s lower carbon concretes combine our distinctive proprietary binder ingredient – ZEP® technology – with our expertise in concrete-mix design to replace the cement used in concrete with SCMs. SCMs are typically ground-granulated blast-furnace slag and fly ash, which are by-products of steel manufacturing and coal-fired power generation, respectively. These products are more sustainable and comply with the Australian Standards and the National Construction Code (NCC) and Building Code of Australia (BCA).

In addition to ourENVISIA®, Envirocrete® Plus, andEnvirocrete® range of products, we also tailor carbon neutral solutions for customers using the Australian Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard.

Inn-1 (ISv1.2) Innovation This credit rewards innovative initiatives and outcomes in delivering sustainable Infrastructure Projects. Boral’s ready mix concrete products may help achieve, Innovation challenge 5: High Clinker Substitution, and Innovation Challenge 8: Sustainable Suppliers and ISupply; in particular: Boral’s Envisia, Envirocrete Plus, and Envirocrete products included in this listing offer more than 50% replacement of cement with supplementary cementitious materials (SCM), which may contribute to Innovation Challenge 5: High Clinker Substitution. As these products are listed on the IS ISupply Directory, they may help contribute to Innovation Challenge 8: Sustainable Suppliers and ISupply.
Mat-1 (ISv1.2) Materials footprint measurement and reduction This credit rewards design and practice that reduces lifecycle environmental impacts of materials. Boral’s ready-mix concrete EPDs include Envisia, Envirocrete Plus, and Envirocrete low-carbon concrete products, which could deliver a significant reduction in the embodied carbon of concrete by replacing up to 70% of cement with supplementary cementitious materials. The EPDs provide the GWP figures, which can be directly used to estimate the emission reductions achievable.
Mat-2 (ISv1.2) Environmentally labelled products and supply chains This credit rewards procurement of major materials that have environmental labels or are from sustainable supply chains. The products in this listing come with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which are recognised environmental labels.
Rso-6 (ISv2.1/ISv2.2) Material Life Cycle Impact Measurement and Management This credit requires the design and construction of the project in ways that reduce the environmental impacts of materials across the life cycle of the infrastructure asset.
Rso-7 (ISv2.1/ISv2.2) Sustainability Labelled Products and Supply Chains This credit requires utilisation of sustainability labelled products and supply chains to address supply chain risks and opportunities. The products in this listing come with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which are recognised environmental labels.
Inn-1 (ISv2.1/ISv2.2) Innovation This credit rewards innovative initiatives and outcomes in delivering sustainable Infrastructure Projects. Boral’s ready mix concrete products may help achieve Innovation Challenge 2: High Clinker Substitution, and Innovation Challenge 4: Sustainable Suppliers and ISupply; in particular: Boral’s Envisia, Envirocrete Plus, and Envirocrete products included in this listing offer more than 50% replacement of cement with supplementary cementitious materials (SCM), which may contribute to Innovation Challenge 2: High Clinker Substitution. As these products are listed on the IS ISupply Directory, they may help contribute to Innovation Challenge 4: Sustainable Suppliers and ISupply.
