ISCA and NSW EPA joint forum on non-road diesel emissions

ISCA, in partnership with the NSW EPA, is developing industry case studies highlighting best practice diesel emission strategies, practices and approaches.  The first case study was presented at the ISCA conference on the 22nd of October with all case studies published on ISCA and EPA websites towards the end of the year.

The case studies are a result of a collaborative project between ISCA and the EPA. This led to ISCA hosting a joint workshop on the 2nd of September 2015 to engage with the construction industry regarding best practices to combat diesel emissions from non-road diesel equipment.

The workshop was opened by ISCA’s CEO, Antony Sprigg and presenters on the day included Dr Christine Cowie (UNSW), Aleksandra Young (Senior Air Policy and Programs Officer, NSW EPA) and Kate Cole (Thiess Pty Ltd).

“ISCA believes that developing case studies highlighting best practice measures being implemented within the construction industry will lead to greater uptake of diesel emission reduction projects within the sector”; said ISCA’s Technical Director, Rick Walters.

The workshop closed with a robust discussion on the barriers and best practice case study discussions around reducing diesel emissions.

The NSW EPA are prioritising minimising emissions from non-road equipment through actions in their Diesel and marine emissions management strategy.  EPA’s Emissions Inventory data reveals that non-road vehicles and equipment make up the fourth largest human source of fine particle emissions and the largest unregulated source in Sydney’s Greater Metropolitan Region.
