About
Stabilite FA-LX is a fine, light powdery material designed for use as a stabilisation binder to improve in-situ subgrade materials in road and civil construction.
It is manufactured as a 50/50 blend of hydrated lime and fly ash, the latter being a by-product from paper manufacturing, kerbside waste recycling, and co-generation processes. The fly ash component is specifically sourced from VISY’s Co-Gen facility in Somerton/Coolaroo, Victoria.
When substituted for traditional lime in subgrade improvement, Stabilite FA-LX demonstrates equivalent performance in California Bearing Ratio (CBR) and Atterberg Limit improvements, while achieving a reduced carbon footprint through utilisation of a recovered industrial by-product.
The application of this Product is primarily for subgrade improvement and soil stabilisation in civil and infrastructure works, including road construction, earthworks, and pavement rehabilitation.
Stabilite FA-LX has been certified by the National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO). The certificate and endorsement cover parameters relating to the independent assessment of Stabilite FA-LX by the Product Evaluation Panel (PEP), including:
– Compliance with NTRO certification requirements
– Independently verified technical specification
– Assessment criteria and technical investigations
– Stabilisation mix design considerations
– Typical applications and installation guidance.
Sustainability Outcomes
The Sustainability Benefits of the product include:
– Incorporates fly ash recovered from VISY Somerton/Coolaroo Co-Gen plant, diverting waste from landfill, and reducing reliance on virgin lime resources
– Reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared with traditional lime binders
– Supports circular economy principles through reuse of industrial by-products
– Contributes to lower embodied carbon in stabilised subgrades.
