About

KiwiRail moves people and freight by rail and sea and is the guardian of the national rail network. We aspire to be a modern, efficient rail company supporting many varied sectors of the New Zealand based supply chain. We offer:

  • an infrastructure division delivering asset management and improvements in the rail network
  • a wide range of profitable and sustainable logistics services
  • an inter-island shipping business offering services to road, rail and passenger markets
  • commuter and tourism services
  • property management and development

KiwiRail has a significant capital projects programme to achieve over the next 10 years. This is the result of recent Government investment to ensure New Zealand has a reliable and resilient rail network that will encourage more freight to shift from road to rail, thereby lowering overall greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector.

IS Projects

KiwiRail is about to undertake an IS Rating Scheme on the Dury Rail Stations project as part of the Auckland Metro Programme.

Auckland Dury Rail Stations project:
The Government’s New Zealand Upgrade Programme has provided funding for three new train stations for southern Auckland.

The new stations – two at Drury and one in Paerata – will include bus interchange and park and ride facilities and will allow for connecting walking and cycle paths. New connecting roads will also be developed.
Combined with the extension of electrification from Papakura to Pukekohe, this project will make travelling by train more accessible and appealing to those living and/or working in the area.

KiwiRail has worked with the Supporting Growth Alliance (Waka Kotahi and Auckland Transport) to confirm the locations of the stations and undertake community consultation on these.
