End of Year Message

End of Year Message

As the year draws to an end, ISCA would like to acknowledge its members and the wider infrastructure sector for your leadership and contribution to infrastructure sustainability.

We have seen a rapid increase of infrastructure projects committed to sustainability – so far we have awarded 8 certified ratings across seven infrastructure projects. But more importantly, we close off the year with 27 registered ratings across Australia and New Zealand, and 5 of these will be going through final verification early next year.

The projects registered range from Australia’s biggest infrastructure projects to significant road, transport and water projects, all the way to community based/local government assets (water and transport). Project proponents like Transport for NSW; Roads and Maritime Services (NSW); Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (SA); Department of Transport and Main Roads (QLD); ACT Government; Public Transport Authority (WA) and Main Roads (WA), as well as airports and ports around the country, are leading the way in getting projects registered early in the planning stages.

We are excited for the coming year with some of our key activities already in train such as the development of two additional themes: economic and workforce, building the business case for infrastructure sustainability, and the roll out of an updated training material for 2015. Through the ISCA Working Groups and ongoing sector engagement, we will continue to collaborate with you to advance infrastructure sustainability.

We wish you a safe and happy Christmas and look forward to continue to work with you in the new year.

Main Roads to use Slidestreet water for road construction

Main Roads to use Slidestreet water for road construction

Main Roads plan to use treated water from the Slidestreet Event on 14 December towards construction works on the iconic Gateway WA Project as part of its sustainability commitment.

“Main Roads is very proud to be working collaboratively with Slidestreet and the City of Perth on this exciting Australian-first community event,” Main Roads Managing Director Steve Troughton said.

“On conclusion of the event in Perth’s CBD, Slidestreet will transport the water in several trucks to the Gateway project for use during construction activities.”

“It has been very encouraging to see how Main Roads has developed the integration of sustainable strategies into major infrastructure projects over the past twelve years,” Mr Troughton said.

“This includes adopting the Infrastructure Sustainability rating tool, Australia’s only comprehensive rating system for evaluating sustainability across design, construction and operation of infrastructure for projects valued over $20million.”

The Gateway WA project is currently registered for formal verification under the Infrastructure Sustainability rating tool.

“Gateway WA is committed to making decisions that contribute positively towards the local environment, the community and the greater economic development of the state across the life of the infrastructure and into the future long after construction ceases.”
